The Shimano STEPS system is one of the biggest players in the E-bike market.

Their systems are used all over the world!

There is a lot of information available on your Shimano STEPS-powered E-bike.

We have created a short guide with the most important things to get you going!

      Assistant modes

On an E-bike you are in full control, whether you are training to get fitter or you want a leisurely ride, you decide!

In New Zealand, most E-bikes assist up to 32 km/h or 45km/h depending on the motor unit installed on your E-bike.

With Shimano, you can fine-tune the assistant modes with the Shimano E-tube Project app. The amount of adjustability is dependent on the motor system installed on your E-bike.

But first, we will give you more information on the assist modes.

      Assistant modes SHIMANO E7000/EP8

With the E-Tube App, you can change the assist character, max. torque and assist start per mode.

The power output displayed below is when your E-bike is set to the middle settings.

      ECO

Eco provides an extra 60% power of the rider's input

      TRAIL

Trail mode matches an extra 100% power of the rider's input

      BOOST

Boost gives an extra 300% power of the rider's input

For each assist mode, you can change the settings to your personal preference.

Get more range out of your E-bike by adjusting the assist character and maximum torque. Or go full power and cover more distance on shorter rides.

      Assistant modes SHIMANO E5000/E6100

You can change the riding characteristics with the E-Tube App.

      ECO

Long distance riding on level ground.

In the comfort setting this delivers an extra 40% power of your input

      Normal

      Gentle slope or level ground

In the comfort setting this delivers an extra 100% power of your input

      High

      For steep uphill slopes

This delivers 200% power of your input.

With the Shimano Steps E6100 motor, you can choose between comfort & sportive. The sportive setting will provide 60% support in 'Eco' & 125% support in 'Normal'.  The support level of the assist mode 'High' stays the same.

      off & Walk mode

      OFF

As you probably guessed by its name, 'OFF' means the pedal assist is turned-off.

      Walk Mode

E-bikes are generally heavier than analog bikes. Therefore, walking an E-bike up the hill can be challenging, especially if you carry a heavy load.

The walk assist is there to make your life easier.

Activate this mode by pressing and holding the minus/lower button.

How to operate the walk mode

      1.  Start walk mode - Press and Hold the minus/ lower button. and start walking.

      2. Stop walk mode - Release the minus/lower button.

      3. Exit walk mode - Press the plus/top button.

      Apps

      Maximise your E-bike experience!

      Shimano offers two different Apps.

The E-Tube Project and the E-Tube Ride.

With the E-Tube Project app, you can view and adjust the settings of your E-bike.

With the E-Ride Ride, you can change your smartphone into a bike computer.

      E-Tube Project

      Customize settings of the E-Bike

With the E-TUBE Project app, you can check firmware updates, and system errors and customize the assist modes to your liking.

      E-TUBE Ride

Use your smartphone as a cycling computer

With the E-Tube ride, you can visualize your ride, display your route on a map and record and review your ride.

      Lights

If your E-bike has integrated lights, these can be controlled from the main control unit.

Depending on the control unit installed on your E-bike the lights can be activated by either pressing and holding the plus button, or the specific light button.

You can only activate the lights when the bike is powered on.

      Battery RAnge

Know how far you can go!

The total range on you E-bike depends on a lot of factors like the total load, the terrain your riding, outside temperature and of course battery size and motor unit. Also, the settings of the motor have a big impact.

On the display on your bike, you can view the estimated range in the different assist modes.

The range calculator on the bike will use data from previous ride and elevation to give you an indication of the total range.
